We’re continuing to monitor the California Superior Court’s response to COVID-19.
A lot has happened in the past week. Most importantly, the court issued 11 emergency court rules, which can be found HERE.
The most critical takeaways from the rules for our purposes are the following:
- Statutes of Limitations are tolled for all causes of action from April 6, 2020 until 90 days after Governor Newsom lifts the state of emergency.
- No requirement for in-person depositions.
- Time limits for bringing an action to trial extended by 6 months.
- 60 day continuance of jury trials. Calculated from the date the trial was to begin.
These rules apply to all 58 counties, though, each county has applied them in different ways with regards to their court operations.
We’re keeping an eye on all 58 counties. To see how each county is responding, check out our report HERE.
